God will destroy the body?

I Cor. 3:17 “Do not destroy the temple of the Holy Spirit or God will destroy you.”
Sin has consequences.
I do not think that is just forbidding suicide. This passage forbids anything that harms the body. This is not works righteousness. It does not say He will destroy the soul. I see this verse as a consequence of destructive behavior. God allows even His own people to die from diseases related to poor care of the body. Think of obesity related conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Some sexually transmitted diseases prove to be fatal. Think of the liver damage from alcohol abuse.
